Restoring wrought iron railings
The wrought iron railings to the Church had become badly damaged and corroded from the sea air and were both unsafe and an eyesore to visitors and residents alike. We did a thorough survey and put forward our recommendations for a comprehensive programme of conservation and restoration using genuine wrought iron.
Once work commenced we removed the railings to our workshop to painstakingly conserve as much of the original as possible. Many of the elaborate details such as scrolls, finials, and railheads were damaged beyond repair and our blacksmiths hand-forged replicas from genuine wrought iron to match the size and character of the originals using best blacksmithing practice. We carried out the works in conjunction with Albion Stonemasons of South Newton, Salisbury who replaced the worn-out coping stones and re-pointed the supporting wall.
