2017 Torquay Heritage fountain restoration
In October 2017 we began work on Torquay Fountain in Princess Gardens.
The Process:
- The historic fountain was dismantled piece by piece, to transport it back to the workshop for this heritage ironwork conservation project.
- Cast iron parts were specially made and used to restore the fountain. Most of the fountain was hand-painted (in blue and gold) to give the correct decorative finish.
Whilst dismantling the fountain the public was concerned to be losing their beloved landmark. The Council quickly took to social media to explain the situation. Assuring the public, it was all part of a major restoration project gave this heritage fountain restoration even greater significance.
