Estate Ironwork Maintenance
Many years ago and even up until the 1960’s many estates had their own Blacksmith’s shop to maintain the estate metalwork. Over time, due to economics most were closed down. The blacksmiths role was different then. Much of the work would have involved the repair and upkeep of tools for the gardens and farms and of course shoeing the horses who were powering the ploughs. They would also have maintained the various decorative metal works around the estate. Without the Blacksmiths to look after the gates, railings and benches etc. much metalwork became neglected.
Newton Forge now look after estate metal work and with many years of experience we are able to prevent further deterioration, provide maintenance programmes and of course fully restore existing or missing metalwork.
